The interment of our Father, Floyd Parks

Our mother, Shirley Parks and my brothers, Jim, Gil, Bruce, and Brian along with two Grandsons, Mike and Jason (USMC) came to Michigan for a interment of  our father in the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly MI. See YouTube link on links page.

The construction of the Parks cabin began in about 1951.  It was built by my “Uncle” Noble Wolfe, his father, Fauncher Wolfe and his son-in-law Lowell Harms.  For the full story in the words of Uncle Noble, press the history button at the top.   I started coming up to the cabin when I was about five years old .  I love it just as much now as I did back then, 37 years ago.  I find it very relaxing to get away from the “city”.  Even though I have made many modern additions such as a bathroom w/shower, a dishwasher and even a washer/dryer, I still enjoy it as a rustic get away.  One of my favorite things to do in northern Michigan is to lean back in a lawn chair and star gaze. Without the lights of the city you can see millions of stars.  It is never a disappointment.

We have many family trips every year. With a nice size lake nearby on the back waters of the Hodenpyle Dam, a little a small country store at the corner owned by Nate. It is a quick little get-a-way vacation. I have a small tri-hull boat which we use to ride across the lake to a nice sandy area where the kids swim and explore. Every now and then I try my hand at fishing, which doesn't yield much!  Years ago, I bought a couple wave runners to play with on the lake.  I only hope my kids learn to enjoy it as much as I have. Mine and my wife, Laura's family as well as many of my friends and their families have enjoyed this little place. It isn't much but I hope all who use it take advantage of the clean air and water in the "up-north" of Michigan.  Thanks for stopping by.  Sincerely, Greg
